Marmite around the world: why does marmite in New Zealand taste weird?

In Australia they have a Marmite witha different design all together so I tried it and it tastes like DUN DUN DUHHHHH VEGIEMITE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've just moved there, and whilst the stuff sold as 'Marmite' here is entirely different (and vile), you can get UK Marmite here and there, sold under the 'Our Mate' brand. It's still a bit different somehow, but it's definitely close enough for me.

I have noticed on my trips to Kiwiland that Marmite tastes different and almost has a (shock horror) vegemitey feel to it! Can anyone explain? I had to send some out to my daughter who's out there for 6 months and couldn't bear to be without the REAL thing!
