Marmite

Sainsbury's sell the crisps which are in my opinion the best Marmite snack.

I was horrified when I went for my Marmite Crisps to Morrisons last week and they have stopped selling them - where am I going to get my Marmite crisps from now - I can't do without them - help

I can now update you all on the Marmite crisp conundrum. Unilever have assured us that Marmite crisps are certainly still in production but only Morrisons bought them last month and they have no control over what each store buys. Buying departments of stores decide themselves what to stock. Not sure how we can influence this. Personally I don't understand why only Tesco and Waitrose are stocking the XO, maybe because of the exorbitant price. And Asda but not Sainsbury's have the cashews.

I am most concerned about this stopping marmite crisps production. Why were we not told so we could stockpile? And does anyone know how the Marmite crisp contract is awarded? Are Unilever having to hand it to someone else?

Sainsbury have just told me that production is being stopped. Comes as no surprise. Give walkers the contract you idiots!!!!

I said it and am proved right! :( Not only did unilever make a BIG mistake taking over the marmite flavour from walkers, they then buggered them up completely by adding garlic, It was obvious they would soon stop production. Come on unilever, let walkers have the marmite crisp contract back!!!

There was me thinking, "oh fantastic, Unilever are going to take over producing Marmite crisps" hmmmmmmmmmm, what a let down!! :( Not only are the majority of them burnt (well and truly over cooked), but to make things worse (from the point of view of a person allergic to the stuff), some bright spark decided to add GARLIC powder!!!!! Come on Unilver/Marmite, wake up. The sales of your own marmite crisp version up against the Walkers (cooked properly), are not going to do well at all. What a *** shame.

Were have the Marmite crisps gone I can not find them any more I have had to settle for the rice one's but they are not so strong

The walkers ones are much stronger than these! these new ones have a slightly odd taste that deffo isn't marmite.

That's interesting, Debbymillie. I did an on line order with Asda yesterday and looked for Marmite crisps and they didn't list any. Had to settle for cheese and onion! Yuk!

I have bought these a few times in packs of siz in sainsburys, haven't seen them anywhere else though, but they are so yummmmmmy!

I'm struggling to find these anywhere. Any idea who's stocking them? I've been looking for weeks!

Hmmm. It looks like I'm in a minority here. First of all... I'm still open to ideas as to who actually produces these crisps. There's nothing on the packet to state these aren't in fact manufactured by Walkers. Unilever won't have set up a production plant for making one type of crisps - chances are an established crisp manufacturer will be making them under license. And who's to say that's not Walkers (and whoever it is are happy to keep their name of the packets if Unilever pay them enough). Now then - is it a different recipe? Well, it certainly does taste so, and personally speaking I do find them rather better. Whereas the Walkers-branded ones tasted more like 'real' Marmite, the taste didn't really suit the crisp, I think, as the potato flavour buried the bite of the Marmite. The new flavour does take precedence over the flavour of the potato, and whether rightly or wrongly from a puritanical point of view, I enjoy them a lot more. Wish I could say the same about the breadsticks (yuck, simply taste burnt - very little actual Marmite taste seems to survive the baking process, even though the same ingredients are used - perhaps the recipe's method needs looking at), and whereas the rice cakes do have the right flavour, the flavour doesn't mix well with the rice cake itself (again, the recipe method I think needs amending to take into account the unusually viscose properties of the flavouring agent in this case). The Cashews, I have yet to find, so can't comment. They're the ones I'm most looking forward to trying, although Marmite Dry Roasted Peanuts would, for me, be much more of a draw.

The new crisps taste horrible. I didn't realise that garlic powder has been added to the flavour. Why? I think that Unilever should ask Walkers for the flavouing that they used. I won't be buying any more, and I used to send 6 packs of the Walkers crisps to a friend in the USA on a regular basis, but she doesn't like the new flavour either.
