Marmite Squeezy: Is Marmite Squeezy better or worse than normal Marmite?

marmite definitley tastes better in a glass jar. It is what I have grown up with. Lets keep with tradition. Glass jars are better for recycling too.

First both taste great. next. people hate change. So not surprising to note the debate going on. That aside, I want to draw your attention to a simple economic fact. Charging the same for a 400 g squeezy bottle as a 500g glass jar corresponds to a 20% price increase (per gramme). However, there is an insidious other thing going on that nobody has cottoned onto. To get the squeezy properties from marmite is accomplished by leaving more water in the stuff when they process. This causes the thinness and flowability. More water translates to less real marmite per gramme. Have not done the experiment to determine how much water is needed to get flowability but I would bet it is at least 10% and maybe more. You could probably calculate based on nutrition info on both products. So they have you by the long and the short as it is said - ***aller container with less marmite per gram - a double whammy. By the way, where I live Marmite is $10-12 per 125g - that's about 6 - 8 pounds per jar. Now calculate that per 500g (over 20 pounds) and your should be happy you can get the 500g or even the 400g for 5 pounds.Have to stock up on regualr trips to UK.

I couldn't believe this when it first came out. It was shockingly and irritatingly modern. But then when I had to go on a Duke of Edinburgh expedition, the leader said: 'NO GLASS JARS'. I panicked. No Marmite? What? Please?! So, as I walked gravely around Sainsbury's, looking for something to attempt to replace my delicious Marmite, I saw the answer. SQUEEZY MARMITE! It helped me in my hour of need, and although I remain faithful to the glass jars, I am very grateful to the plastic. ***

Initially, Marmite Squeezy seemed like a sick joke. A modern step too far. However, I soon realised the Big Squeeze has many benefits. It can be whipped out of my office drawer and squirted on to anything from a crisp to a piece if celery in seconds. It can be squirted into a Big Mac before they say "Enjoy your meal". And, I'm not ashamed to say, it's even found it's way out of my bag in a rather up market restaurant. So glass on a Sunday, along with marmalade and the Sunday papers. Squeezy as a workaday necessity. Long live the gooey stuff.

I haven't bought Marmite squeezie it just doesnt seem right. I like trying new stuff, but Marmite in a squeezie thing is just wrong. I always put the last of the jar in whatever I'm cooking or run my finger round the last bit. How can you do that with a squeeze. Nah, it has to be glass.

you chumps - get down your local costco (or get someone you know too) - 600g tub (note tub not jar but it's the same stuff not the squeezy) - £4.00.

Hooray, This morning I found that 500g jars of Marmite have reappeared on the supermarket shelves again. Maybe customers are being listened to.
Hooray!! Yes! After going into my local ASDA and not getting ANY of the things I wanted, I actually got out of my apathy and complained about the lack of Big Marmite jars... and last week they have reappeared! yaaaay!

worse worse worse. I have loved Marmite for many years but was almost turned off it by the new squeezy! It is horribly runny and has a weaker taste. The plastic bottle is cheap and nasty and it runs out alot faster too. I have gone back to buying the nice solid glass jar and cant believe how much better it is. The squeezy seemed like a good idea but it is nasty and should be banned on grounds of decency.

We joined this forum group after looking for somewhere to complain about the lack of 500g jars and the introduction of more expensive squeezy bottles. Good to see that we are not the only fuddy duddies about this. We spend our money carefully, but Marmite is always on our shopping list. We reckon this is because one of us was born prematurely in Burton and had Marmite piped in to his incubator (along with intravenous real ale!) We have so far refused to buy a squeezy bottle, but are making our way rapidly down a 250g jar.....

I noticed that last year the price of a 500g jar increased from about £3.80 to about £4.80. Then the 400g squeezy jar(ugh!) became available at a price of about £4.80. Then the 500g jar disappeared! What about customer service now? Has the 500g jar disappeared forever or is it just part of the campaign to try to get us to use the environmentally UNFRIENDLY squeezy, plastic container?
